About
I have been playing for many years and get so frustrated trying to get out what I feel inside through my guitar...any tips to help or does it just happen one day?
I found that listening to a lot of blues and R & B was great music for me to learn how to be expressive. Good luck!
When you write songs do they just come to you, or do you plan time everyday to "work" at songwriting?
Actually......both. I always have a cassette recorder close by, because ideas also come to me at all times of the day. Driving is inspirational for me.
Any chance you guys would ever use artwork from a fan such as myself?
It's a possibility because we are not signed to Sony anymore. Who knows what could happen.
No more Sony? Did I read that correctly?
You know what........I still have a lot of friends there. But they are obviously not interested with the way we are right now.
Neal what about that tour of europe?
Because of the Sept. 11th attack.....not just us, but many bands, are leery of touring outside the U.S. right now. But we'll see what happens.
Hey Neal, Did you marry a Minnesota Girl?
Oh Ya! Just a true Minnesotan aye? Well Ya Know......I married Amber......from Waseca, Minnesota Ya Know! I've been practicing how to speak like like a Minnesotan Ya Know. O.K. then.....I'll speak to ya later now.....You betcha.
I would also love to have a DVD of some classic concert footage from the early 80's....I see support for this on various sites. What would it take to make this happen?
I'm trying to make it happen right now. As we have hundereds of reels of tape from the beginning to now.
Any chance of a thirtieth reunion concert in December '03 with Gregg, George, and Prairie (or Aynsley)?
We'll see how Gregg feels about it in 2003. I've been trying to make this happen for quite some time now. He's the only one that has been uninterested at this point.
I've read so much about David Thomas McNaughts -- that they may be superior to PRS's or right up there -- that I'm wondering if you've had a chance to play them. In this regard, do you get a lot of guitar luthiers requesting that you try, play and/or endorse their brands? If so, what has kept you on PRSs and G&L's?
I haven't tried these guitars yet. But if I see one I will check it out. I just love PRS's, Gibson's, G&L's, and some old Fenders I have. I feel that the PRS's, and the G&L's are the finest new guitars out there. However, Gibson made me some beautiful guitars before this last tour.
Do you guys hang your best selling Records In your homes??? Just wanted to know what you do with them???
Mine sat in boxes for half my life, cause I just couldn't bring myself to put gold and platinum all over my walls. But then.....my wife made me do it. I'm still trying to get used to it. I feel like I'm in a CBS executives office. But then I look at it, and I think, "wow, we've accomplished a lot."
What high school did you attend in SF?
Aragon High School......is the one I attended sometimes. And that is in the peninsula....San Mateo.
I have heard you lived in NJ at 1 time in your life. Is this true?
Yes it is.....Trenton, NJ.
I am a young fan trying to learn how to play the guitar. I was wondering, is it easier to learn on your own or would the best thing be to get an instructor?
I would suggest getting a teacher for a few months, and see how you are doing at the end of that. If you are doing better, than start listening to things you like on records, and it usually rubs off.
Neal, How do you guys write and practice your music with people spread out throughout the country?
Everybody writes themselves and when we get together we throw everything in a bowl of soup......kind of like Cajun!
Any plans for a followup to "Arrival"?
No plans for a new cd right now. But, I have been talking to the guys about the concept of writing some brand new stuff, and putting it in our show this summer. Stuff that has lots of rhythm, upbeat, and rocking.
I noticed that this was the first Gibson Les Paul that I've ever seen with a Floyd-Rose. Did you get it customized? And if so, is it possible for the average consumer to get one?
I was actually the first guy to put a floyd-rose on a stock Les Paul....back in the early 80's. The ones I was playing this last year were custom made for me by Gibson. Go to the custom shop on the internet, and make a request.
My Heart Will Go On Just wanted to say congratulations on your well deserved nomination for "Voice"! I think this album is a masterpiece and shows your versatility to a tee! My wife just loves your interpretation of 'My Heart Will Go On' and says she could listen to it over and over again! It's also my personal fave from the album!!! Thanks again for taking all this time to answer posts!!! You truly are the people's band!!!
All I can tell you is that when I got done playing it and listening to it...the fur was standing up on my arms. That is definately a sign to us musicians.......also referred to as.....goosebumps!
